CCBC is the only community college with a student-operated
control tower providing real live Air Traffic Control services!
This program provides training in radar and
non-radar procedures as well as hands-on control tower operator (CTO)
training and experience.
Graduates receive:- Associate of Science in ATC
- Actual FAA CTO Rating in Beaver Tower
- Private Pilot's License
FAA Direct Placement
The CCBC program is the only program in the nation which offers
direct placement into FAA ATC towers. ATC graduates who meet
specific high academic standards and other FAA criteria may be
recommended and hired directly to FAA ATC towers for certification
and advancement. In order to ensure that students are aware of the
realities of the FAA/CCBC process, students should arrange an
admissions interview, and must sign a Statement of
Understanding before entering the program.
Facilities used by ATC students include:
- non-radar lab
- control tower lab
- Tracon-Pro approach control lab
- Beaver Control Tower
- Students also observe operations at PIT ATC Tower.
Flying
CCBC ATC students complete flight training through at
least the Private Pilot's license. Flight training is
subsidized 40% by the State of Pennsylvania for state
residents.
Medical
Both ATC and Professional Pilot programs require the following:
- Current FAA Class-II aviation medical certificate
- No speech impediments
Your family physician can refer you to Aviation Medical Examiners (AME's) in your area.
About CCBC
CCBC is a fully accredited community college located 25 miles northwest
of Pittsburgh, PA, near the Ohio border. The main campus is located in
Monaca, PA, and the Aviation Sciences Center is located at the Beaver Airport (BVI).
About 25% of our aviation students are from Beaver County. The other 75% of our aviation
students are from the rest of the country!
The majority are out-of-state residents. The reason for this diverse student population
is simple: our graduates. CCBC aviation grads are employed nationwide by commercial
and commuter airlines, as well as the FAA and private ATC facilities.
Alpha Eta Rho, the International Aviation Fraternity, has their Alpha Phi Chapter at CCBC.
4-year Options
The 1-2-1 Program:
CCBC has a formal articulation with Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA)
for both ATC and Professional Pilot graduates. Students complete their
first year at Geneva, their middle two years at CCBC, and their fourth
year at Geneva. Geneva College provides a
Christian perspective to a traditional liberal arts education.
